Who we are
Emma Osment, founder of family owned business HUS always had a love for creating spaces that felt homely and inviting. From early years she designed, built and created.....anything Art, building furniture, Leathercraft and sewing were all things that occupied Emmas freetime growing up.
After completing the build of her own home in 2014 Emma went on to open her first small interiors store with some of her own products as well as a small selection of Brands that formed the beginnings of something much bigger to come.
In 2015 only a few months after the first small store named HUS opened, the space was already outgrown....it moved just 3 doors up the road on Empire Street in Cambridge
in 2018 with one large store of products and interior design side of the business gaining momentum a second even larger store in town was also opened to be able to show case more product. The store also had food vendors and a cafe opened on site to create a destination store.
Emmas love of interiors and helping others create spaces they love to go home to is her dream job. Working with new builds and renovations as well as single room makeover, her creative side is always fulfilled helping to take the stress out of the process for customers.
Emmas heart is country and her style reflects this. Often creating homes with natural fibres and a nuetral and earthy colour palette. However she is able to design spaces in any style depending on her clients preference.

Our founders story
Before opening interior design store HUS in Cambridge, Emma designed and built her family’s hilltop home in Cambridge, working alongside a builder and involving her sons in the process. She took on much of the hands-on work herself, from fitting the kitchen and tiling to painting, lining walls and 8m high raked ceilings as well as the stonework on the exterior of the house and the fireplace. The family moved into the two-level barn-style house 5 months after construction began.
Emma wanted the home to feel like a country lodge. Its timber beams, floors, doors and furniture carry stories from other places: a former milking shed, Rotorua Hospital, a European dance hall and the Cambridge railway building. She also made furniture for the house, including timber-framed beds. Her love of making and restoring things extended to rebuilding a 1969 Mustang over seven years.
After leaving school, Emma worked at a saddlery and later raised dairy goats. She went on to open Hus, a Cambridge home design store, with its large range of personally selected and curated furniture and decor, she also offers interior design and styling. On the family property, she has built new turned existing buildings into guest accommodation and spaces for her sons, while adding a pool house and horse barn.
Emma’s home reflects her energy, resourcefulness and close connection to her family. Her mother died when Emma was five, an experience she feels has shaped her determined approach to life. Today, she shares the property with her sons and their animals, and enjoys riding, gardening and fishing with the boys.
